Osmel Sousa
Did you know- Miss Venezuela's president Osmel Sousa is the most successful national director in MU history. Under his presidency, Venezuela has won five international titles: 1981, 1986, 1996, 2007, and 2008. Sousa's fledgling career received a big boost in 1981 when his pupils won the Miss Universe and Miss World titles. In July 1981, Irene Saez finished first in the MU in New York, winning back the global title that Venezuela had lost in May 1980 when Maye Brandt was eliminated in the first round in Seoul, South Korea.

Did you know- At the 24th MU in El Salvador, America's novelist Leon Uris was one of the international judges in July 1975.
Texas
Did you know- In the 80s, Texas had more Miss USA titles than any other U.S. State. Texas collected a record five straight Miss USA Universe titles between 1985 and 1989.
Ines Ligrón
Did you know- Under the instruction of Ines Ligrón, an expert on Miss Universe, Miss Japan, Riyo Mori, was crowned MU 2007 in Mexico City. She is Japan's equivalent of Osmel Sousa.
Augusto Pinochet
Did you know- While visiting Santiago de Chile in the late 1970s, MU, Maritza Sayalero, received congratulations from Augusto Pinochet, Head of State of Chile.
Margaret Gardinier
Surprisingly Miss South Africa, Magaret Gardinier, was named as MU in Mexico. Gardinier's triumph was all the more surprisingly because it hapenned when SA was one of the few countries under racist policies. She won ahead of favorites, Hawaii's Judy Andersen and Peru's Olga Roxana Zumaran.
Nadia Comaneci (Athlete)
Did you know- Romanian-born Nadia Comaneci - one of the Planet's best athletes in the 2oth century- was one of the international judges in 1990. She was the first Romanian in the international panel of judges in Miss Universe's 57-year history.
Stefania Fernandez
Did you know- Stefania Fernandez received a heroine's welcome when she successfully defended the MU title which Venezuela had won in Vietnam in 2008.
Miss Universe Creed
Did you know- The MU Creed is "We, representing the countries of the world in the Miss Universe beauty pageant in order to further the cause of peace, justice and mutual understanding, do solemnly dedicate ourselves to the highest ideals of sportsmanship, friendship and goodwill among all the people of the Universe".

The nice of well-known Panamanian politicians, Anina Horta Torrijos, Miss Panama Universe, was eliminated in the first round in the mid-1970s.
